#10 Kudat
Since we rented the car for 2 days we decided to drive up to Kudat. We heard Kudat is so beautiful and from the internet I knew that we could see so many things as well on the way there. So why not. We set off really early since it's gonna take us about 3 hours to get there. Our main destination was Simpang Mengayau, the tip of Borneo Island.
Before we reached there we stopped over at Bandar Kudat, a very relaxed city, with such an amazing seafront to fill the petrol. AJ drove all the way this time since since it was quite a long distance and I wasn't that confident.
Well, we stopped at Petronas with this amazing view in front of us.
It was Zohor time so went to the town mosque for a while.
We continued our journey for about an hour, and we were extremely excited to be greeted with this view.
There you go, I've been to the tip of borneo y'all.
The view was absolutely breathtaking and dramatic like OMG we were speechless. We kept saying it's worth the driving almost every minute. Like we couldn't say much like just stop and stare and wonder.
It was seriously midday and ridiculously hot. But we couldn't care less. I was glad that I had a really loose shirt on me which was at least breezy.
Behind there, that's the tip of Borneo Island. You could see in the map there are two horns which made up Sabah. I was at the tip which is slightly longer, which is the tip of the island. The reason why it's called Simpang Mengayau is because the tip is the meeting point of the Sulu and South China Sea. So basically mengayau means 'lingering junction'.
I love the structure and the feeling of this particular rock. It was given this dramatic and amazing structure through wind erosion. It becomes like stairs so we can go down near the water.
Near the tip there is this undisturbed pristine beach which was absolutely beautiful. Too bad it was such a boiling hot day if not I would have jumped in the water.
There is no resort whatsoever and I'm glad that this bit of the country is not being too commercialised or over-developed. I'm so glad if it's going to be left just like it is now. I heard you can stay in basic cabins if you wanna stay overnight here but why not to just appreciate the beauty.
I would have wanted to stay longer but it's such a long way to get back to KK and we wanted to stop over several other places on our way back.
I would definitely come back. That's for sure. And in a less raging weather.
